Somervale School is proud to announce that Somer Valley FM radio will go on air in the Spring of 2008, transmitting to 12,000 homes from Peasedown to Paulton. What seemed like a distant dream when we first broadcast in the summer of 2006 has now become a reality.
Funding is now in place for conversion of the old caretaker’s house to a state of the art radio station. This presents a fabulous opportunity for our students to be involved in a very wide range of opportunities in this very exciting enterprise. All members of the wider Norton Radstock community can get involved in providing programmes of interest to the whole area. We are looking for producers, presenters and technicians to create programmes of interest to the people of Norton Radstock.
The work on the caretaker’s house will start in January and will be completed by March. The radio station will have two broadcast studios, a green room for guests, a reception area and a production studio. ‘We need all the community to feel that this is their radio station either by listening to us or coming forward to make programmes,‘ said Mark Kenny Deputy Headteacher and co-director of Somer Valley FM.

‘We are particularly interested in anyone who wishes to volunteer to take responsibility for a programme slot each week, we are broadcasting for 24 hours a day 365 days of the year so there are plenty of opportunities.’ If anyone is interested in getting involved they can contact Mark Kenny at the school or visit Somer Valley’s website www.somervalleyfmblogware.com and click the e mail button to get in touch.
