Author Events at Somervale School

To celebrate the second Daily Telegraph Bath Kids’ Literature Festival, Somervale School have hosted three author events for Years 7, 8 and 9.

Year 7 boys were treated to a talk by Justin Richards who has written a number of Doctor Who novels; whilst Year 8 students listened to Sarah Singleton whose first book for teenagers won the Book Trust Teenage prize in 2005. Sarah writes gothic novels.

A Year 9 Gifted and Talented group worked with Marie-Louise Jensen who has written an historic adventure story whose heroine sails to Denmark in search of a father who doesn’t know she exists! Some Sixth Form English students also benefited from Marie-Louise’s experiences as a writer in a creative session.

The festival ran from 19th to 28th September when more than 100 authors visited Bath to give inspiring talks to children of all ages.

Trust Status Consultation is Underway

The governors at Somervale School are considering changing the school’s category from Community to Foundation status, and acquiring a Trust called The Somer Valley Education Trust.

This consultation runs from September 15th to October 12th 2008 and is for everyone who has any connection to Somervale School and its future development.  We do hope that you will take time to read the documentation and respond to the proposals which are about providing the very best education possible for the young people at the school and to promote community cohesion.
